Your calculator figures

The calculation is performed in your browser. Your previous and current meter readings stay on your device and are not saved in our database.

When you complete a calculation, we record the electricity usage, billing-period length, unit rate and estimated period and annual costs. UK records include standing charges and VAT selection; US records include fixed charges and additional taxes and fees. Records are tagged UK/GBP or US/USD so usage and monetary statistics can be reported separately. Annual figures are simple projections of the entered period. The record contains random calculation and browser-session identifiers, the attempt number within that session and the calculator version, but no name, email address, account number, full meter reading or advertising identifier. The session identifier exists only for the browser tab session and lets us avoid counting corrected attempts as separate results in published statistics. We use these records in aggregate to understand calculator usage and report bill trends.

The latest full result and anonymous session identifier are stored in your browser’s session storage. They are removed when the browser ends the tab session according to its own settings; choosing “Calculate another bill” clears the displayed result but retains the anonymous session identifier so corrected attempts can be grouped.

Messages sent through the contact form

When you send a message, the website receives the name, email address and message you enter. These details are used to read your enquiry and reply where needed.

The form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a submission is genuine. The verification token and relevant technical information, including the connecting IP address where available, are sent to Cloudflare for this check. Successful messages are delivered to the site owner through Microsoft 365.

Please do not include account numbers, payment details or other sensitive information in your message.

Electricity supplier reviews

When you submit a supplier review, we receive the supplier and market, your customer relationship and experience month, ratings, optional review content and display name, email address, your policy confirmations, and submission and moderation records. Your email address is used to send a one-time verification link and to contact you only when needed to moderate the review, handle a report or respond to a rights request. It is not published or used for marketing.

We use your publication permission to publish approved ratings, display name and review content. We use our legitimate interests in operating a trustworthy review service to verify submissions, prevent manipulation, moderate content and create aggregate statistics. Reviews are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile. We store a keyed, non-reversible value derived from the connecting IP address for up to 30 days for rate limiting; the reviews database does not store the raw address.

Unverified submissions are deleted after 30 days. Published reviews are reviewed after 24 months and removed from public display after no more than 36 months. Rejected or replaced review content is deleted after 12 months, unless an active dispute requires temporary retention. The review email is deleted within 90 days after the review is removed. Anonymous monthly statistics may be retained without information that identifies a reviewer.

Do not put account numbers, meter details, addresses, payment information, health information or employee names in a review. You may ask us to remove your review or exercise your data-protection rights through the contact form. Read the Review Policy for the publication and moderation rules.

Advertising and cookies

The website uses Google AdSense to show and measure advertising. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies, IP addresses, browser information and similar technologies. Depending on your consent and settings, these may also be used to personalise ads.

Where required, the live site presents advertising consent choices. You can also manage cookies in your browser and control personalised Google advertising through My Ad Centre. Blocking advertising cookies may change the ads you see but does not stop the calculator from working.

05

Hosting and security

The website is delivered and protected by Cloudflare. Like other hosting and security providers, Cloudflare may process standard request data such as an IP address, browser details, requested page and time of access to deliver the site, prevent abuse and diagnose faults.
