Small changes, clearer costs

Appliance & kWh Cost Calculator UK

Calculate appliance electricity costs from watts and hours or kWh per cycle using your own unit rate. See daily, monthly and yearly costs, then compare what changing your routine could save.

Your appliance

Presets are illustrative, not measured averages. Edit the figures to match your appliance and routine.

How is its energy use measured?
watts
Use the power rating or measured average draw. 1 kW = 1,000 watts.
hours/day
Fractions work too: 15 minutes is 0.25 hours.
p/kWh
25p is an example, not a current tariff quote. Use your rate including any applicable VAT; we add no extra VAT.
Your running-cost estimate

A little each day adds up

£3.04per month, on average

Daily average£0.10
Per week£0.70
Per year£36.50

0.4 kWh a day · 146 kWh a year

Based on the same routine for 365 days. Monthly costs are the annual total divided by 12. Costs are rounded to the nearest penny.

What if you used it less?

Try a different routine and compare the yearly cost.

A better estimate starts with the right figures

Watts & hours

For a steady power draw

Watts ÷ 1,000 × hours × your unit rate in pence ÷ 100 gives the cost in pounds. The estimate assumes the entered wattage is drawn throughout that time.

Heaters switch on and off with a thermostat. Fridges and other cycling appliances need measured average consumption for a useful estimate.

kWh per cycle

For washes and drying cycles

kWh per cycle × cycles per week × your unit rate in pence ÷ 100 gives the weekly cost. Programmes and loads affect actual consumption.

Use the label for your chosen programme or a measured figure instead of multiplying maximum power by the entire cycle time.
